The mineral resources are mainly the rock materials, whose
proven reserves are about 50 million cubic meters and unexplored
presumed stocks are estimated at more than 20 million cubic
meters. There are estimates of the industrial stocks of red
clay and marl. A few mineral springs with curative-preventive
properties are located the near of Targovishte. The plant-growing
and stock-breeding are the main trends in the economy of the
municipality. 57.2% of the agricultural fund is cultivated
land. Leading industries in industrial production is wine-producing,
dairying, production of glass, production of soft and alcoholic
drinks, and production of furniture, construction, tailoring,
services, and trade. Wheat, barley, corn, sunflower, vegetables,
fruit are cultivated mainly. The stock-farming is small, weak
mechanized and entirely in the private sector. Agricultural
and livestock markets, public grain warehouses are developed
in the territory of the municipality. A construction of commodity
market is envisaged.
The municipality applied in front of various local and international
donor programs, institutions and NGOs. Projects are implemented
in the field of ecology, infrastructure, energy efficiency,
culture, education. Targovishte Municipality is an integral
part of the political, socio-economic and cultural life of
the country.
