| Municipality
of Targovishte is situated on a territory of 872
sq. km in the eastern part of the Danube plain. With a population
of 64,025 inhabitants and 52 villages, it ranks eighth place
in number of settlements, fifteenth place in the territory
and the twenty-third place in population of working age. Municipal
administrative center is the town of Targovishte. Its proximity
to the exits of the country - Varna - 130 kilometers and Ruse
- 100 kilometers makes the municipality a strategic crossroads
in these directions. The connection to South Bulgaria through
Kotel is convenient. Road network is 282.2 kilometers. The
railway Sofia-Varna passes through Turgovishte. The base of
Targovishte Airport is situated on 13 kilometers, which is
not currently used. The municipality has a well developed
road, electricity distribution, gas-pipeline and telecommunications
networks. A cover of the three mobile operators is built.
Road network of the municipality has a total length of 305
kilometers, of which 158 kilometers are Class IV. The road
transport infrastructure is dominated by high-classed roads
(including the international road E 772). A section of railway
line Sofia - Mezdra - Varna passes the municipality.
The town of Targovishte is situated on 339 kilometers northeast
of Sofia, 41 kilometers western of Shumen, of 25 kilometers
north-western of Veliki Preslav and 100 kilometers northeast
of Veliko Turnovo. The town is close to the exit points of
the country - Varna - 110 kilometers and Ruse - 100 kilometers,
which makes it a natural strategic crossroads. The connection
through Kotel to South Bulgaria is convenient. It has a well
developed bus and rail lines that connect it with the rest
of the country. There are regular bus lines to Omurtag, Shoumen,
Veliki Preslav, as to the smaller villages.
All villages in the municipality are electrified and water-supplied.
Central road – transport lines cross in four directions the
municipal territory. The first class road I-4 "Sofia
- Veliko Tarnovo - Varna" passes through the town of
Targovishte. It is also envisaged the motorway Hemus to pass
at a distance 1-15 km. from the town. The municipality has
two railway stations along the line Sofia - Gorna Oryahovitsa
- Varna. The base of Airport Targovishte is on 13 kilometers
far of the town of Targovishte, which is with a unique situation:
a distance of 25 kilometers from Shumen and 30km from Razgrad.
The municipality has a well-established energy and telecommunications
networks. The industrial zone and the social institutions
of the town of Targovishte are entirely gasificated. The gas-distribution
network for domestic clients is built practically.
The building of waste water treatment plant in the town of
Targovishte is planned on ISPA. The region is poor in water
resources, but 98.5 percent of the population uses water from
the municipal central water sources which represents a higher
level than the average for the country.
A few mineral springs with curative-preventive properties
are located near of Targovishte and in the same town. For
satisfying with water resources for business purpose, 37 dams
are built in the municipality.
There are modern operating telecommunication system and full
access to the Internet. The coverage of mobile networks is
carried out by three operators of mobile communications -
Vivatel, Globul, Mobiltel.
